Set up your Windows PCs without touching the router.

Plan for about ten minutes per PC. Keep the computers nearby for first setup and know the Windows password for each PC you want to control.

Computer 1

Prepare the PC you want to reach

  1. 1

    Double-click the setup file

Open Remote PC for Windows Setup.exe from Downloads. There is nothing to extract. Windows may show “Unknown publisher” because this independent build is not code-signed; confirm the filename came from this site, then continue.

  2. 2

    Let setup prepare this PC

Choose to allow this computer to be controlled. Approve the Windows administrator prompt. The helper checks the Windows edition, enables native Remote Desktop, and configures the local Windows firewall rule.

  3. 3

    Sign in to Tailscale

If Tailscale is missing, setup downloads its current official installer directly from Tailscale and verifies its digital signature. A browser page then asks you to sign in.

  4. 4

    Leave the app open

Remote PC for Windows will wait for the other permitted computers and check again automatically.

Every other computer

Use the same kit on each PC

  1. 1

Copy or download the same setup file

Use a USB drive, cloud storage, email, or download it again from this page. Double-click the same setup file on each PC.

  2. 2

Choose how this PC will be used

When START HERE asks, press Enter if you want control in both directions. Type N if this PC only needs to connect to the other one.

  3. 3

    Join the same Tailscale network

Use the same Tailscale identity or invite the PC to the same network. The app discovers every permitted Windows PC—there is no address to type.

  4. 4

    Click any Connect button

When a card says Ready, click Connect. Windows Remote Desktop asks for that computer’s Windows account password the first time. It may also show a one-time identity confirmation for the private Tailscale address; check the computer name before continuing.

After setup

From then on, it is one click.

Open the Remote PC for Windows shortcut, wait for Ready, and click Connect. Tailscale runs quietly in the background; you do not need to open it manually. Microphone input, remote sound, and clipboard sharing are requested automatically.
